Grandfather Mountain NC
Grandfather Mountain was a side trip from Grandfather campgrounds. It is know for the highest swinging bridge with an elevation of 1 mile. Don't worry it is only a few hundred feet above land. The actual elevation above sea level is 1 mile. We were there during fall colors and the views were spectacular. We drove up to a parking lot where the trailhead for the trip up to the bridge starts. Personally even though the hike up was largely on staggered boulders, I found it more comfortable than the drive to the upper parking would have been. The road up is a series of switchbacks where you have to turn while not being able to see the road over the hood of our vehicle. The hike was worth the view and yes I would do it again but I think that during fall color change is the best time to do this hike.
